A green hotel design in Shanghai : the URBN

The first hotel reducing and offsetting CO2 opens its doors. Designed by the two owners, Scott Barrack and Jules Kwan, URBN promises to be the start of a new type of empire for the hotel.

The principle: to ensure the neutrality of CO2 emissions by reducing them (through increased efficiency in creating energy, capture gases and use of renewables such as wind, solar and biofuels ) And offsetting emissions not eliminated.

Rather than rebuild the old post office has been upgraded with bricks and local procuratorates recycled. In addition to its very design decoration, the hotel also has many high-tech devices saving energy. The interior and exterior design was produced by A00 Architecture more generally known for its art of transforming old apartment shanghaiens a unique residences and the architect Brazilian Tais Cabral also known for his work in Paris.

The concept works so much that Scott Barrack and Jules Kwan planning to open 20 additional hotels across China in the next 3 years starting from Beijing, Hangzhou, Dalian and Suzhou. In compliance with the principle of “green” that drives them, they will try to rehabilitate up to existing structures as they did in Shanghai, using recycled materials, maximize green space and to introduce friendly solution the environment.
