Banke Hotel in Paris: a baroque pearl in an Haussman-style shelf
• 8 Jun, 2009 • Catégorie: One hotel a day, Paris, Unusual hotels •Combining cutting edge design and old pieces of art, the Banke Hotel, part of the Derby Hotel Collection, is flashing the whole shopping area in Paris by converting an old bank into a luxury and contemporary hotel. 94 rooms full of opulence and consistency all gathered behind a 20th century facade. Jordi Clos, mastermind of the spanish hotel group, riled on architects Paul Friesse and Cassien Bernard to built his new Parisian opus.

From the grand hall, the visitor is immediately seduced by the chain of porphyry and black stone columns, but also by the 19 meters-high glassworks. In a red and gold ensemble, the original moldings, cornices, and other medallions were kept, preserving the symbols of past times, reminded by the still standing ancient counters of the bank. We just melt into the leather Chesterfield XXL sofas, a cup of tea in hand.

As for rooms, leather is extremely used and put fourth on the head bed and on the carpet. The soft hardwood floor goes well with the cream and chocolate aspect of the surrounding environment. Moreover, the crimson net curtains come softly across the room and takes us back to the hall. The marble and silver mosaic bathrooms are a delicate reminder so that past and present can combine in a quest to absolute beauty.

Rates: until August 31st, single rooms are from 200€ et and standard double rooms from 220€.
As of September 1st, from 475€ to 1265€.
Breakfast at 32€.
