Epicurean getaway in the Pays d’Auge

You’ve always been interested in impressionism? Take some time off for an epicurean getaway to the Pays d’Auge and Normandy bocages at the Saint-Siméon Farm in Honfleur. In the 18th century, the former inn of “Mère Toutain” was the meeting point for Corot, Sisley and Monet, to only name a few. After renovation work, the inn became a 34-room hotel, thus replacing the former ad-lib studios of the artists. You’ll probably want to stay in Monet’s room (number 22) facing the old cottage – typical of the region – he painted in “The Cart” (Snow-Covered Road).

The other rooms are as charming, made with beautiful material: fabrics from Manuel Canovas and Rubelli, 17th century “pantalonniere” chests of drawers, ancient Louis XIV wooden floors and in some of them, Venetian crystal chandeliers and wall lamps from Veronese. A decor worthy of Flaubert that we even find in the restaurant with the exposed beams, ancient hexagonal tiles, chimney and oak paneling. You’ll be able to taste an old Calvados or Pommeau along with Pommard wine conserved pork cheek or full stuffed mullet fish.

A little extra: the spa of the hotel, worthy of the Olympus, was named Best Spa Relais & Château, with its infinity pool, sauna, Turkish bath and gym. On the spot, discover beauty treatments based on Ayurveda and Chinese traditions as well as signature treatments such as the “Stapni”, given with brushes on the whole body, or the very soft massage with pebbles from Etretat.

Auberge de la Source : on the footsteps of Gustave Flaubert

In the Normandy country, between Deauville and Honfleur, there is a bucolic picture very appreciated by the Impressionist painters : its name is Auberge de la Source. In the little village Barneville-la-Bertran, hilly and green, the guests of Christine and Jean-Marie Boelen ( the owners of the hotel ) are welcomed like romantic and aesthete travelers. Maybe you will catch sight of Gustave Flaubert or Guy de Maupassant…

With its 15 rooms and its unique apartment, this charming hotel is divided in two establishments: a half-timbered farmhouse, typical of the region, and a very beautiful red bricks house. Surrounded of a lovely flowered garden where you can find teak chairs and wrought iron tables, the Auberge de la Source looks like an idyllic spot, however it is just two hours from Paris.

The rooms, recently entirely renovated, are like “bijou apartments” with their exposed beams, their oak headboards and their floors.We particularly appreciate the slate bathrooms and the pebbles shower floors for the “nature side”. Finally, you must know that the Auberge de la Source has its own “table d’hôtes”, exclusively reserved to the hotel customers. You will taste an authentic local cuisine, like a salted lamb shoulder “ à la bonne femme”, or a sole meunière and its mashed potatoes purée.

A little extra : The hotel can lend bikes to discover the places. Your pets are welcomed ! As a matter of interest, the Auberge de la Source is called like that because here, three sources directly go to the forest.
