Nestled near the church of Saint-Martin-de-Ré in the old part of the city, the Villa Clarisse has kept the spirit of the island with shades of white, a certain brightness and closeness to nature. The decoration, designed by Olivia Calvez and the studio of Pierre Yves-Rochon, subtlely brought a modern touch – with the refined bathrooms – to the older features (fireplace and period paneling).

This 18th century mansion was in fact the birthplace of General Lepasset. Perfectly in harmony with the lovely garden, the Villa Clarisse has a large outdoor heated pool for guests to enjoy the summer, even with medium weather. A spa and a Turkish bath will even open their doors in the fall.

With a decoration typical of the island, the Sénéchal Hotel is a piece of lost paradise for any traveler looking for a relaxing atmosphere. After stepping through a porch, you arrive in front of a lovely house, surrounded by a wooded park, where 33 rooms and suites in the spirit of the island and of the Vendée are waiting for you, wrapping and reassuring. Indeed, with their off-white, beige and brown shades, their warm fabrics such as velvet and flax, and their romantic and rustic furniture, they look like cocoons, worthy of the best country houses.

Before going for a ride “à bicyclette”, as Yves Montant used to sing, we dash off to the hotel’s Spa Clarins, set up in a former sheepfold, hence the beautiful volumes, to enjoy a beauty treatment associated with the beneficial effects of the sea. Otherwise, you can dive head first into the hotel’s heated swimming pool with it’s contemporary design.

A little bonus: Not a fan of breakfast? You will certainly change your mind if you stay at the Clos St-Martin! The room dedicated to that purpose is charming, decorated with red lamps with white flowers for a particularly romantic atmosphere.
