Latvia is one of these Nordic country bad known from westerners. Riga, the capital, is considered as the heart of the Art Nouveau, and more than 800 buildings have been built in this style. But the city is especially known for its rich gourmet heritage, widely spread throughout its restaurants. There, all culinary expectations are honored. The Downtown market, bustling and strongly representative is one of the biggest in Europe. Bigger than the Bois de Vincennes, it contains former airship warehouse turned into gourmet temples offering a colorful spectacle. We find here the Kvass, soda without alcohol made with rye and the Rupjmaize local bread cumin flavored, not to mention the Uzavas, a Latvian beer. Hoosta Magazine recommends you the Neiburgs hotel, real source of pleasures!

Its front is an homage to the Art Nouveau, while the inside decoration is definitely modern. We love elegant furniture placed in the 55 rooms in sober shades adorned with orange and red touches which gives a quiet and cozy ambiance. Special mention to the incredible view on wonderful pointed roofs, typical of the Riga architecture. Just perfect for a romantic dinner, where you will discover the best Latvian specialties, among these: many fish, meat and cheese well smoked, accompanied by the best sparkling wine of Riga.

Well-known from local and tourists, the hotel restaurant mixes sophisticate historical elements in the meal and in the decor. The young and talented chef Tomass Godinsh presents a fusion cuisine between contemporary and traditional food. All the Latvian gastronomy nuances are revisited according seasons and world food. Let yourself be overwhelmed by the Oven-roasted wild boar fillet with vegetable lasagne, persimmon and honey marmalade and red wine sauce but above all by the bitter orange cake with chocolate, thyme terrine and pink grapefruit sorbet. We guarantee a gourmet getaway!

The little bonus: The Spa!

Rates: from €90 for the Studio Apartment, up to €225 for the Storey Deluxe Suite

What’s the point of skiing on runs when you can ski on the roof of your hotel? This crazy idea came from the Danish group BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group – along with the project of a hotel resort in Norway. With 11,000 square meters and 330 apartments, the Hafjell Mountain will certainly win the award for the world’s funnest hotel. Imagine a giant building separated in different parts and scattered along the valley and you’ll get the outstanding architecture of the Hafjell Mountain. Thanks to its unusual architecture, the hotel is bound to a ski run starting from the roof and running down at the foot of the building. The question of how close the runs are from the hotel no longer needs to come up! However, you’ll have to wait before making this wild dream come true because the Hafjell Mountain is still just a plan.

Real machine to go back in time, the Annas Hotel offers you a trip in the middle of the XVIII century, a cocoon where history and modernity are linked. Situated in Latvia, just one hour from the capital Riga, this former manor, converted into a center of design excellence, is a heaven on earth. Each of the 10 unique apartments will offer you all the comfort that you deserve in a hushed atmosphere: excessive soft beds, islet bath and even a fireplace for the apartment Superior Lux. The perfection to put your city lifestyle aside!

The walls of this manor are impregnated with history, decorated in a contemporary style since the renovation of the hotel in 2009. Surrounded by a park of several hectares favorable for long walks and philosophical conversations, it was formerly the place of residence of an aristocratic Latvian family. Stay in an ideal atmosphere for your romantic weekends, where your lady will feel like an empress.

After a day of meditation around the pond of the hotel, come to the “Kannas”, where you will eat a refined and delicate cuisine. You won’t find any silverware or crystal glasses but a traditional cuisine made by a creative Chef who will offer you the best dishes, inspired by the Latvian cooking traditions.

A little extra: There is a hot spring in the middle of the park, where you will have a bath in an unique setting, without forgetting the Spa with its large bay windows.

Rates : From 63€ for the double room, until 215€ for the Superior Lux.
