Galle is one of the greatest representations of the European colonial period. The Dutch fortifications are well established and that’s what makes this fortified city of South Asia so charming. Strongly inspired by this period, The Fortress Hotel, as its name indicates, is a perfect example of the interaction between the European architectural style and south Asian traditions. Like a real fortress, the heavy wooden doors open on a long inside courtyard. The Fortress Hotel has a stunning view on the Indian Ocean and presents a very sophisticated interior.

Between luxury and modernity, the 49 rooms are spacious and simple with shades of ebony, chocolate and cream, lightened up with bright colors, like the cushions and the paintings. All rooms have a balcony and view on the ocean or the lush gardens. All bathrooms have a bathtub in addition to showers, even a hot tub for some of them. The 6 Ocean lofts, on the other hand, have their private little indoors swimming pool.

At the Fortress Hotel, everything is designed for your well-being. Lounges are built high up under a wooden structure or outdoors in a very design decor in front of the ocean, furnished with white leather pouffes. As for gastronomy, the hotel restaurant “Heat” offers a fine cuisine, fusion of Mediterranean dishes which will leave you musing, whereas the “Pepper” serves typical Asian dishes. Finally, the “Wine 3”, The Fortress’ gastronomic restaurant, welcomes you into a genuine wine cellar holding more than 2.000 bottles!

A little bonus: the Sen Spa, true peace haven with a lavish and design decor. Turkish bath, sauna, yoga pavilion, gym, treatment and massage lounges and relaxation spaces.

Rates: from 96€ for the Fortress Garden room, from 289€ for the Ocean room, from 338€ for the Beach room, from 498€ for the Ocean Loft room and from 1.045€ for the Fortress Residence.

We all know the Ceylon tea. Like a good and faithful friend, it warmly wakes us up in the morning, and it warms us in winter. This tea accompanies us everyday since so many years, but do we well know it? It is time to organize a pilgrimage in its far-off land, over there, in Sri Lanka. How great! The Hotel Ceylon Tea Trails is waiting for us. It’s a full change of scenery: 4.000 feet above the sea, you will discover 4 bungalows of colonial tea growers built between 1890 and 1939 with authentic furniture. Thus, you will immerse in the world of a tea plantation, in the green hills. Around these tea fields that we can see from a distance, we enjoy the comfort of an original hotel with a classical style.

Rates : From 233€ all-in.

In the uptight neighbourhoods of Rosmeald Place, the Tintagel Colombo hotel is like a heritage of Sri Lanka’s modern history. Old presidential refuge, this majestic establishment is hiding an exotic and timeless setting behind its white walls. In 2005, this national treasure opens a new chapter in its epic adventure thanks to designer Shant Fernando, bringing back within the walls the fast and glory of the old, prestigious and dynastic era.

In the heart of this small haven, high ceilings are smoothly hidden behind in the curves of the arches and immense wooden columns. As the architecture awakes in us some vague desires, the colours (white, ebony and red) give birth to flamboyant combinations. As an inveterate globetrotter, Shant Fernando brings back to life different landscapes of the world through a very eclectic set of furniture. Sofas from Portugal, Flamingo chandeliers, give pureness and serenity to the rooms.

The unavoidable and mythic Alfresco takes you the high point of elegance. In this authentic and stylish restaurant, the visitor can enjoy international and innovative dishes on antique chairs and sparkling trays. In the early hours of the night, the candles will end the darkness from under the parasols pour an unforgettable and romantic dinner.
