Charley Toorop at the Modern Art Museum : Close-up on the human kind
• 2 Feb, 2010 • Catégorie: Culture •Born in 1891, Charley Toorop was the leading painter of Dutch Modern Art of the XXieth century. She is put in the spotlight in a restrospective at the Modern Art Museum of Paris, which is a version adapted from the exhibition « Especially no principles » in 2008 by Marja Bosma at the Boymans Van Beuningen museum of Rotterdam. 110 works are gathered which 85 belong to the artist. A “spare bedroom” gathers the works of different artists she has been related to. By practicing an art where the boby shape is deeply existing, she was able to master with fineness a realism which was precursor to the modernity. Vibrating self-portrait, humorous or disturbing feminine representations, contemplate and let us guide you on the way of modernity.
