Bookbinders Paris, by Julia Willard

Somewhere along that charming walk through the Marais – preferably on a Sunday, when the streets are packed with locals and tourists alike – lies a beautiful book and stationery store that is the kind that anyone with even the slightest affinity for writing would sweep one off her feet. For those who don’t know this sensation, I pity you this once. After all, there’s something especially alluring about writing in a beautifully-crafted bound book. That cracking sound that the book makes when you open it the first few times (and longer, if you take care), the binding, the colored covers – they all just make one desire to have something beautiful or important or inspired to write inside. If I gave into this urge to buy a notebook every time I saw a pretty one, I would have shelves and shelves of beautiful – but completely blank – notebooks.

Book Binders Design, a Swedish company with several locations around Europe and more to come, has many of the lovely paper products I have been seduced by in the past, but has a greater focus on books… that is, books for everything from diary writing to sketchbooks of all sizes and colors to address books to wedding guest books. Another reason to love this shop is because of it’s “Passion” collection that encourages the collection and preservation of special items, whether that be photography, scrapbooking, or something else. Beautifully-made boxes in every color of the rainbow are available, as well as file folders, albums, cards, binders, and rubber stamps.
