The 19th Century Paris Revealed to Parisians
• 26 Jan, 2012 • Catégorie: Culture, Parisian moments •Even if tensions within Paris are more or less calm down today, it has not always been a quiet city. Many struggles took place notably between the ruling class and the working class. This is the subject of the exhibition presented at the Carnavalet Museum, focused on the 19th century Paris people. Immerse yourself in a period when Paris was subjected to demographic transformations, industrial revolution and urban modernization. We learn a lot about their daily life and their working conditions through past items and an important iconography. And discover a universe composed of rag dealers, seasonal migrants, workers from suburbs, when there were guinguettes, cabarets and dances with accordion music, a universe also marked by uprisings that made the Paris people famous.
Exhibition «Le Peuple de Paris au XIXe siècle, des guinguettes aux barricades», until February 26th, 2012.
Open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10am to 6pm. Closed on Monday and public holidays.
Price: €7 (from €3,50 on concession).
