From the guest house to the hotel, there is only one step
• 14 Apr, 2010 • Catégorie: Paris •Charlotte Ferrero, owner of the Hotel Sainte-Beuve had one idea in mind: open a bed and breakfast in province. Finally, she opened a hotel in Paris! After 3 years of research, she has a love at first sight for the Hotel Le Sainte-Beuve, an old boarding house to which she brings a breath of fresh air: “I had a feeling about this place, it is always like this, with people as with things” she said. The Left Bank was obvious, looking more like her with its human scale and cozy appearance. Her personal touch? Decoration. She wanted to make a hotel “that does not look like a hotel“. Ultimately, the Sainte-Beuve is her second home, where she receives her guests like family members. And also, the columns of the small lobby designed by David Hicks have won her heart, confirming her choice. But as she likes to say, she would like to do more, like a guesthouse precisely, but the hospitality business imposes standards that must be respected.

A passion for boutique hotels is linked to her personal life. When on vacation with her husband, they always opt for family hotels like the Hotel Au Coin du Feu, a 3 star hotel run byt the Sibuet family in Megeve. Design or luxury hotels have no interest for her. Moreover, for the decoration of the Saint-Beuve, she always ask before selecting an object or tissue “is what I would put it to my place?”. A challenging situation, which gives the Sainte-Beuve later this pretty guesthouse style that has always had throughout her life. Suddenly, the plaid is from Sequana, the sinks in the bathrooms are reissues from the 30’s, and each office installed in the rooms is unique, found during the strolls of Charlotte. But the centerpiece of the hotel is unequivocally the bar in the breakfast room, a little zinc acquired at an auction.
Charlotte also brings to the hotel, roses from her garden. Customers love it. Some clients have been staying at the Sainte-Beuve for several generations, as the American guest who found in her grandmother stuff, letters indicating that she was staying at the hotel in the previous century! Ask the receptionist, he will be happy to tell the story in more detail … One hotel that travels with its customers. In the rooms, reception, or in the breakfast room, books in several languages are available to customers. Some of them relate to home, forget them or leave voluntarily, others leave with and bring new ones. A nice cycle that dream.
Her plans? With her husband, Charlotte Ferrero is finishing the renovations of their second hotel Boulevard Raspail, Hotel de la Paix.
