Gourmet walk in Montmartre

• 18 May, 2009 • Catégorie: Stroll in Paris

It is in the passage of the Rocher de la Sorciere (Rock of the Witch) that one wonders about the mysterious black portal. This hides an exclusive hotel (only 5 suites!), a trendy place in the heart of the historical Montmartre, where the customers are eclectic and prestigious. Thus, among the highly rated avenue Junot (landmark for movie people) and the famous rue Lepic (from Amélie the movie) is the Hotel Particulier Montmartre. Morgane Rousseau, owner, has agreed to concoct a greedy walk in one of the most beautiful districts of Paris.

Sweet and salty

A few steps away, all orangish, a beautiful façade will attract your eyes. This is the famous chocolate maker Arnaud Larher. The pastries have a taste of their beautiful appearance and the unique verrines are also delicious. One hesitates between the praline moelleux and the macaroons with pistachio cherry. Specialty of the house: the box of macaroons sold by the meter!

In terms of cheeses, Virginie knows everything and in her shop, we discover what the region does best. Fresh and authentic products, displayed in an unique and exciting way in wicker baskets and jars placed on the shelves. Some cow bells adorn the walls and some cheeses are hung from the ceiling. Just like in a real farm!

Lunch time!

Le Café Qui Parle tells us a lot about the spirit of a friendly neighborhood. The atmosphere is casual, retro style, with deep leather armchairs and the chocolate parquet. On the walls, temporary exhibitions of young artists are attracting attention. The menu changes with the seasons, and in the plate, fresh products directly from the market at reasonable prices.

Le Moulin de la Galette, at the top of the hill, is a gourmet restaurant both elegant and cozy. On the terrace, shaded by umbrellas, high walls covered with ivy mill give the place its unique atmosphere. Beautiful wine cellar, copious and distinguished menu, you may prefer and acidulous colors of the main room.

For lovers of the exotism, the restaurant Guilo Guilo takes you to Asia. In the dining room, the style is elegant and sober. In the kitchen, dishes are prepared in the Japanese culinary tradition. The tasting is done around the chef’s counter. Expertly done! Watch and enjoy, you are in one of the popular restaurants on the right bank!

Around a glass

Wandering in one of the many stairways up to the hill, facing the exit of the metro Lamarck-Caulaincourt is the Café du Refuge. Simple and typical bistro style, a sunny terrace at certain times of the day, this is an unpretentious cafe frequented by people from the neighborhood. A luxury in Montmartre!

Far from the hustle and bustle of the main avenues, the Cave Café is the perfect place for a drink at the end of the day. The south-facing terrace is the appointment of bobos from the area. Do not hesitate to wait a few minutes on the sidewalk with a glass of wine while a table becomes available…

Wood and leather interior, steel and metal on the outside, the Café de la Poste knows how to distinguish itself while remaining authentic. Regis and Valerie, the owners put all their kindness and their energy to make this neighborhood brasserie a contemporary one. Live concerts, theme evenings, local products, wine producers, all the time, the equation works!

Other cafe, other atmosphere. Wooden tables and map slate, Burq is midway between a pub and a coffee in Paris. In a perpendicular street to the rue des Abbesses, people come for a drink or to enjoy a simple but hearty dish. The large bar also serves as a cellar, with a fine collection of wines and draft beers.

Artists from the Butte

The Little Big Galerie exhibits paintings in a small room. The two small rooms are uncluttered, to make room for the pieces of art. The place is well named: a small gallery to contemplate the work of great artists. The workshop, which juxtaposes the gallery is open to visitors.

La Librairie des Abbesses is not only known for the colorful personality of its owner (who was once a columnist writing for television), and above all the taste and the variety of the courses and the 10,000 references covering the walls of the shop who made his reputation. With a clean look which smells the good new book.

With its 1000 sqm² dedicated to artists – painters, photographers, videographers – Galerie W is a 100% VAP (Very Artistic People). Created by Eric Landau, dubbed by Miss Tic, this space is a reference to the Parisian art lovers.
