Hotel Majestic: a historical hotel

• 3 Jun, 2009 • Catégorie: Hotels and stars

Luxury and trendy Hotels aren’t only made popular by film directors. These hotels have hosted for a night or two the most powerful people in the world, and have made their way into legend…

Hotel Majestic, Saigon, Vietnam
This hotel is a true institution, and has welcomed former France President François Mitterrand. He stayed in one of the 175 elegant rooms, with a very 1930-ish atmosphere. Attended during the war by the war corespondents and spies, this mythic hotel has also been the destination of the royal families of Japan, England, Belgium and Denmark.

Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac, Québec, Canada
This large and prestigious mansion is where Winston Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Mackenzie King talked about strategy during the second world war. This meeting took place in August 1943 in the legendary “salon rose” and resulted in the Overlord operation ten months later.

Le Reid’s Palace, Madère
This heavenly spot in the Funchal bay (Madère island) was where Winston Churchill (him again) had decided to write his memoirs (“Winston Churchill – Memoirs on the second world war.”). This renowned palace owns four hectares of botanical gardens where the scent of the Virginia creeper is mixed with geraniums, hibiscus and the sage, all dominated by the salt spray of the Atlantic Ocean.

Hotel Nacional de Cuba, Havana, Cuba
Recognised as a national monument of the Republic of Cuba in 1998, this luxury hotel inaugurated in 1930 during the infamous reign of Al Capone is a jewel to the architecture and history of the country. Overlooking the Havana bay, the Hotel Nacional has seen the great men of this world. Winston Churchill (yet again) and the Prince of Wales had resided there for some time.

Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, Thaïlande
Located right by the Cho Praya river, the Mandarin Oriental of Bangkok is known for it’s warm welcome and valuable services. Former presidents such as Jacques Chirac or George Bush have resided there. We can also add to the list: Helmut Kohl, Princess Diana and the Queen Sofia of Spain.
