Hotel Rafayel : ecofriendly London calling
• 2 Dec, 2009 • Catégorie: Gourmet, Green hotels, One hotel a day, United Kingdom •It’s often difficult when people choose a hotel to combine their various interests. You are a cuisine lover and also an environmentalist at heart? Then the whole new Rafayel Hotel in London is for you! 65 rooms laid beside the Thames, self-sufficient and modern hotel. This 5 star that opens its doors in December would like to reduce the carbon trace of each of its employees and customers.

Different actions are taken: use of LED lights, recycling of paper and glass, recovery of rainwater on the terrace of the hotel, electronic newspapers offered to customers, organic and natural products used in Spa… The Rafayel Hotel plays also a card of “ No Plastic”, preferring to only use glass bottles with bigger capacity (200ml) instead of traditional plastic packaging of 20ml.

The Rafayel Hotel has also another advantage: its multiple restaurants and bars aimed at aesthetes. The “Banyan on the Thames” is the gastronomic trump of the hotel for dinner with panoramic views over the river and the city through the curved facade of the hotel. In a more casual mood, the “ Left Bank Brasserie” allows quick lunch. Returning from a visit, stop at the “ Mychelle’s Baketiques” to enjoy pastries and sweets. Finally, the “ Afternoon Tea” offers all the traditional British sweets: scones, jelly ant tea-time! You’ll only be worrying for choice…

Rates : from 132€ for the Mississippi room to 316€ for the Nile suite.

I certainly am looking forward to join up with the new age renaissance of Battersea on the banks of the River Thames!

Green Seal, an organization that certifies the environmental practices of a variety of businesses, conducted a survey a few years ago and found an average 150-room hotel consumes in one week as much as 100 4-person households do in one year. That’s a lot of consumption and waste! We believe in cutting consumption, cutting plastics and cutting waste. We believe in sustainable development and smaller corrosive footprints of CO2. Affordable technology assisted luxury is our new mantra.
We have in place the following:
Maintenance for Conservation Energy Conservation Bulk Soap & Amenities Bonus Newspaper Program Towel Program Sheet Program Cotton Towels/Sheets Eco-friendly Food Served Promote “greenness” in PR Educate Guests to “green” Educate Staff to “green”
Participate in Green Program(s) Fresh Air Environmental Cleaning Water Conservation
Xeric Garden Gray-Water Recycling Durable Service Items
The future of the hotel industry is seeing two major trends surfacing – a more responsible industry with regard to conservation and the environment and a more socially conscious traveler. In the hotel industry, there exists different hues of green.
There are two aspects to being a green hotel. The first involves the physical aspects of the building and site, such as design of the hotel, technology, investment in equipment and systems which are low energy, lighting and water conservation, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. The second aspect involves hotel operations, such as the process design, which should be environmentally friendly and carbon neutral, and the operating supplies and choice of guest amenities.Rafayel is few of the distinctive environmentally friendly brands that are actively pursuing sustainable footprint trail on the level of design and operations.
Hi Hotel Rafayel, As a close by resident in the area where this awesome change and transformation is ongoing, I have seen the change of the Falcon Wharf building very keenly. As a activist in sustainable movement I find Rafayel model as most attract, the explanation above is awesome and I have used it as my comments on other sites. Well done I will echo the sentiments of ‘echo space’ where they say that Rafayel has taken the first steps to bring changes in the design and operation standards of luxury hotels. Let’s not think that luxury and green are not compatible, they are very much so if right technology is used.
”But it’s more than these eco-technologies that make Hotel Rafayel special. It’s the creativity behind some of the decisions and the sense of real philosophical intent. The VDA energy management system, for example, is able to calculate how much energy is being used from the moment a room is entered.
Guests will be able to view their consumption on the television screen and there is talk of rewarding particularly “green” guests – perhaps a free spa treatment or a bottle of champagne. This hotel is not just about luxury, it is about educating people setting a new standard for hotels around the world. I wholeheartedly applaud it.”
