Ice Magic, Champs Elysées: Parisian heritage in ice
• 15 Dec, 2009 • Catégorie: Culture • Fairy sculptures of ice and snow on the Champs-Elysees in the heart of the Christmas Market in Paris.
The Arc de Triomphe, Bastille, Notre-Dame de Paris, Moulin Rouge, the galleries of the Louvre, but also the Venus de Milo, the Mona Lisa, Joan of Arc, The Thinker of Rodin … all in ice!
Some 420 tons of ice were carved by sixteen artists.
For nearly two weeks, artists from around the world are locked in a tent kept at a negative temperature for sculpting, each in their own way, a great Parisian monument in ice directly from Lapland.
Everyday from 11am to 11pm until December 28th (until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays).
Rates:
Adults: 14€
Seniors, students under 25, disabled: 12€
Children under 12 years: 8€
Children under 4 years: free
An event entirely frosted?
Some still ask the question: At carbon balance, global warming, at a time when heating is a luxury, at a time when the mayor of Paris wants to make Paris an eco-capital is it really sensible to create a giant refrigerator of 600 sq?
And others wondered: Escape the everyday and dream is priceless!
