Jours de Fetes at the Grand Palais, Paris

• 21 Dec, 2009 • Catégorie: Paris what’s hot ?

“Jours de Fêtes” invites you to dive into a magical atmosphere in the midst of fairground attractions, from the discovery of the treasures of the Musee des Arts Forains to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Django Reinhardt, with the biggest manouche gypsy jazz names participating in the festival.
The Musee des Arts Forains had out from its storage room for « Jours de Fêtes », the most representative pieces of decorative art designed for the greatest number. At the time of the industrial revolution, some craftsmen led by clever showmen designed the first merry-go-rounds with the arrival of new technologies.
Will be presented, among others:
- The Gondola of Gustave Bayol, a masterpiece of the sculptor, seen today as the pinnacle of his art
- The Indian elephant which is from the 1931 colonial exhibition and which illustrates the relationship between the world of the fairground and the universal exhibitions
- The reconstruction of a mechanical carnival stage, forgotten entertainment show and forerunner of cinema.
Each day the gypsy music intoxicates the Grand Palais and acontributes to the festive atmosphere.
