Go down the most beautiful avenue in the world in a rain of lights. This year again, the Champs Elysees is illuminates with thousands of lights. Admire the Christmas windows of department stores. To learn how to skate on the Place de l’Hotel de Ville. This is possible thanks to the two ice rinks, one for children and one for adults, free access during the month of December. The skate rental is 5€ for adults and free for children. And if you’d rather skate on the roof of Paris, go to the rink in the Eiffel Tower (until February 1st 2010).

To be amazed at the Christmas Tree of Designers. Each year, the big names of the fashion world in Paris create their own Christmas trees. The results are presented to the public, this year at the Ministry of Culture and Communication (182 rue Saint Honoré, Paris 1st arrondissement), then auctioned for charity. Among the 2009 designers include Jean-Paul Gaultier, Gucci, Hermes and Paul Smith.

To dream of luxury between Place Vendome and Rue de la Paix. Difficult in Christmas to escape the fatal attraction of the finest shops in Paris, but if you prefer jewelry and handicrafts, head for the Christmas markets which are numerous in Paris. The Les Halles (1st arrondissement) is one of the most authentic, illuminated with 150 cottages…  Here, street vendors perfume the Christmas air with the smell of roasted chestnuts and mulled wine: could not resist!
