Summer holidays: dream hotels with your family

• 8 Jul, 2009 • Catégorie: Chloe, contemporary traveler

Whether it is discovering the wild lands of South Africa, sailing to South America, approaching the boundaries of Patagonia, traveling the land of Uncle Sam, admiring the cultural wealth of China, diving into the wonders of the Indian Ocean, my wish this summer is to go for an adventure with my family. In the meantime, here are seven destinations in the world that are breathtaking!

South Africa

Outpost Kruger National Park. Up on the trees, surrounded by a splendid natural reserve, with a 360° view on the Kruger National Park, this luxury hotel is like a mirage close to the lions, leopards and elephants. The open-air bathrooms and the giant picture windows make a constant connection between you and nature.

The Twelves Apostle Hotel and Spa. “Twelve” because of the cliffs surrounding this piece of paradise where sky, sea and land are as one above the Atlantic sea. This is the only hotel of the Cape of Good Hope national park, where admiring the grey whales from the teak terrace will make you regret absolutely nothing.

South America

Indigo Hotel and Spa. Patagonia remains a mysterious and mythic destination, an unavoidable stop for travellers seeking an incredible experience, a chance to stand amazed before the infinite beaches. The wild design of this hotel, incorporating natural elements, is a true benediction.

Central America

Blancaneaux Lodge, Belize. Francis Ford Coppola, the director of Apocalypse Now has created this ecolodge in a natural reserve in Central America. All the smoothness of luxury ecotourism is present in these cabanas set in the middle of the jungle and close to the most beautiful Maya ruins. You can admire the whole while enjoying Italian (of course!) specialties.

North America

Cavallo Point, San Francisco. Still ecologic but more urban, a beautiful ecolodge awaits by the Golden Gate bay. American wooden houses with verandas, terrace and rocking chairs for you to admire the sunset in the west coast. In the restaurant, the awarded chef Joseph Humphrey is serving French cuisine with a Californian touch.

The King Pacific Lodge, Canada. Right by a lake, you will see a strange boat-hotel, a sphere of well being in the middle of western Canada! In each corner of this floating wooden house, Mother Nature is reminding us her beauty and there are plenty of activities. Go fishing for wild fish or canoe-kayak and have some harmless fun.

Asia

HOMA Hotel, Beijing. New continent calls for new setting. And quite unexpectedly, the Chinese design immediately seduces us! This hotel is a triangular chalet dedicated to contemporary art and is offering an unpredictable distraction: an initiation to ceramics and calligraphy by local artists.

Commune by the Great Wall. A funny name for an equally funny hotel with its 11 ultra modern villas at the bottom of the Great Wall, like a hidden mirage behind the hills of China. Each room is like an authentic little architecture museum and sneaking in the private passage leading to the Great Wall is a child’s game.

The Theva Residency, Sri Lanka. Immemorial secrets, ancestral traditions, this superb hotel is named after a ritual – the Thewawa – that’s giving a spiritual force to the whole place. A complete immersion into the beauty and culture of the country, paused by dives into the immense swimming pool that seems to be strongly connected to the surrounding exotic landscape.

Uma Paro, Buthan. As a happy ending end to this world tour, here are the eternal heights of the Himalayas, in the heart of these sacred mountains. A relaxing, luxury, ecologic and unpaired hotel where the air is pure, located on the side of the hill. A spiritual quest that is in perfect adequacy with nature and the Buddhist philosophy. Spa and restaurant included.
