TAG at the Grand Palais: wild art under the spotlight

• 17 Apr, 2009 • Catégorie: Culture

Wild art, ephemeral art, tag has always been related to groups of unemployed youth, suffering from adolescent ill-being, or to the fan of hip-hop. You might be wrong, as tag (known for Tag And Graff) is now a trendy design and suitable for wide audience.

An exceptional man, avant-gardist, Alain-Dominique Gallizia, decided to exhibit this artwork which is related to destruction, by bringing together around 150 international artists in Paris: “I wanted to repair this injustice by providing, through a simple canvas, a medium for these new genre artists.” Indeed, the works of these ephemeral painters are mostly supplanted by another taggers, supplanted in turn, etc.

The theme of this unexpected exhibition? Love. 300 paintings are gathered under the canopy of Grand Palais. Everything is in the same format (double horizontal canvas 60 x 180cm), Taki 183, Seen and others, have the liberty to choose the subject (on the right of the canvas) based on love, and their respective signatures (on the left). Alain-Dominique Gallizia will not sell or disperse these collections. These 300 artworks serve as historical documents, and will travel around the world, from museums to temporary exhibitions. This is a way to make permanent this sublime art which is still unknown by the rest of the world.

TAG – until April 26, from 11a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays nights until 11 p.m.
