Prague, the city of a hundred spires, is the undisputed romantic destination and The Augustine hotel, open since May 2009, is the ideal cocoon for your stay. Located in the Wallenstein gardens in the heart of the Mala Strana historic area, The Augustine has an incredible and Romanesque story to tell. The hotel has 101 contemporary and design rooms (including 16 suites) about ten meters away from the monks housed in one of the isles on the monastery.

The Augustine is a 13th century monastery and the surprising result of the combination of eras. The hotel is by architect Martin Kotik and artistic director Olga Polizzi. The atmosphere is very contemporary and reminisces stories from the past. The colors in the rooms (orange, green, purple) remind the papacy, and by pushing a door, you will find yourself in front of the St-Thomas church, with fresco inspired by the Sixtine Chapel. The furniture is a homage paid to the Czech cubism artists with accessories from the 20’s and 30’s, like the sumptuous works by Pavel Janak.

For a personalized stay, go for the tower suite located in the ancient observatory of the monastery. With its 3 floors (one for the living room one for the bathroom and one for the room, this panoramic suite is offering a breathtaking view on Prague’s multicolored bell towers. Also go for a gourmand tasting at the Monastery Restaurant with the home-maid cheesecake. There is another thing that you shouldn’t miss at the hotel: the Saint Thomas beer at the hotel’s bar, where stalactite and stalagmite from the 17th century add up to the picturesque charm of the place.
